Nothing unique about it. Just a grave. Nice church. You will be asked to make a donation before going to the grave site.
A view of Holy Trinity church from down the river
Shakespeares Grave is at Holy Trinity Church, in Stratford-Upon-Avon. Its not as well visited as Shakespeares birthplace, or the other main attractions around the high street in the town, but it is definitely worth a visit. The gravestone is within the church building, cordoned off by a separate entrance but accessible to the public for a fee of 3 for adults and 2 for concession rates. The site is about a 12-minute walk from the high street, and right next to the RSC gardens. There are other gravestones as well in the area and the gardens around. It can get quite crowded and noisy for a church but given this is a tourist attraction it is worthwhile visiting, albeit with a tad more sobriety and respect.
If you're in Stratford to do the Shakespeare thing then it's probably worth popping in to see his grave. There's a pleasant walk and a nice church. Take a moment to think Shakespeare thoughts and marvel that this guy is still pulling in the crowds after several hundred years. What a dude.
We were in town after visiting Warwick Castle and Shakespeares house, so decided to visit his grave. Its a beautiful old church (seem to recall that the channel containing the grave was built in 1480) and absolutely magnificent inside, if youre into old architecture, stained glass, and the skill, devotion, money, sweat and blood that went into making such things.Theres a 3 contribution to enter the chancel, which doesnt seem unreasonable, given the number of people who make this visit inside and active ancient church. The grave visit aside, the whole building is worth your attention.
